Privacy Policy

Effective Date: September 2, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Manitoba Teachers’ Society (“MTS,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information in connection with the You Do The Math campaign website, located at https://youdothemath.ca/ (the “Site”). This policy is intended to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

By using the Site, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site or provide us with your personal information.

1. Who We Are

The Site is operated by the Manitoba Teachers’ Society as part of the “You Do The Math” public education advocacy campaign. If you have questions about this policy or how we handle your personal information, you can reach us at:

Email: info@mbteach.org

2. No Direct Storage of Personal Information

The Site itself does not store any personal information you submit. When you take action on the Site (for example, by signing a petition, sending a message to a decision-maker, or subscribing for updates), your information is collected and processed through the third-party tools described below, not on MTS’s own servers.

3. Information We Collect

Depending on how you interact with the Site, we may collect the following categories of personal information:

  • Contact and action information: name, email address, postal code, mailing address, or phone number, if you voluntarily provide it when taking an action (e.g., signing a petition, contacting an elected official, or subscribing to updates).
  • Usage and device information: IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, referring/exit pages, and general interaction data, collected automatically through analytics and tracking tools.
  • Social sharing activity: information related to content you choose to share via our social sharing toolkit, and engagement metrics associated with that sharing.

We do not knowingly collect financial information, government identification numbers, or other sensitive personal information through the Site.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the personal information collected through the Site to:

  • Operate and facilitate the You Do The Math advocacy campaign, including transmitting your messages to elected officials or decision-makers on your behalf;
  • Communicate with you about the campaign, including sending updates, calls to action, and related communications, where you have consented to receive them;
  • Measure and analyze how visitors use the Site, in order to improve its content and effectiveness;
  • Understand the reach and impact of social sharing related to the campaign; and
  • Comply with legal obligations.

Where we send you electronic communications (such as email updates), we do so in accordance with CASL, including providing a clear way to unsubscribe at any time.

5. Third-Party Tools and Service Providers

We use the following third-party services to operate the Site. Each of these providers has its own privacy policy and, in some cases, may process personal information outside of Canada. We encourage you to review their policies directly.

New/Mode

We use New/Mode to power the Site’s advocacy tools, such as petitions and message-your-representative campaigns. When you take action through these tools, the personal information you provide (such as your name, email address, and address) is collected and processed by New/Mode on our behalf, in order to deliver your message and, where applicable, to communicate with you about the campaign. New/Mode’s privacy practices are described in its privacy policy.

Meta Pixel

We use the Meta Pixel to understand how visitors interact with the Site and to measure the effectiveness of our campaign communications and advertising on Meta platforms (such as Facebook and Instagram). The Meta Pixel may collect information about your browsing activity on the Site and allow Meta to associate this activity with your Meta account, subject to your Meta account and browser settings. You can learn more about how Meta uses this information, and manage your ad preferences, through Meta’s Privacy Policy and ad settings.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect information about how visitors use the Site, such as pages visited, time on site, and general location (derived from IP address). This information helps us understand and improve the Site’s performance. Google’s use of this data is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Sosha

We use Sosha to power the Site’s social sharing toolkit, which allows you to share campaign content to your own social media accounts. If you use this toolkit, Sosha may collect information related to your sharing activity and engagement (such as clicks and shares) in order to provide this functionality and related analytics. Sosha’s privacy practices are described in its privacy policy.

6. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The Site and the third-party tools described above may use cookies, pixels, and similar tracking technologies to enable functionality, remember preferences, and collect analytics and advertising information. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings; however, doing so may affect the functionality of the Site, including its advocacy and sharing tools.

7. Disclosure of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose personal information:

  • To the third-party service providers described in Section 5, solely to operate the Site and campaign;
  • To elected officials or decision-makers, where you have chosen to send them a message through the Site’s advocacy tools;
  • Where required by law, regulation, court order, or legal process; and
  • To protect the rights, property, or safety of MTS, campaign participants, or others.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal information collected through the Site only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. Retention periods for information processed by our third-party service providers are governed by their respective privacy policies.

9. Your Rights

Under PIPEDA, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you;
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal information;
  • Withdraw your consent to our collection, use, or disclosure of your personal information, subject to legal or contractual restrictions; and
  • Unsubscribe from campaign communications at any time, using the unsubscribe link provided in our emails or by contacting us directly.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at info@mbteach.org. Because some of your personal information is held by our third-party service providers, we may need to work with them to fulfill your request.

10. Children’s Privacy

The Site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal or operational reasons. The updated policy will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
